# UK Battery and WEEE Compliance Course

UK battery and WEEE compliance for producers and online sellers: product scope, producer registration, compliance schemes, labelling, take-back and reporting.

A smart doorbell camera ships with WEEE registration filed correctly, quarterly tonnage reported on time, every box checked — except the embedded rechargeable battery inside it was never separately registered at all. This is the single most common compliance gap in UK electronics: a producer's WEEE Regulations obligations and Batteries Regulations obligations trigger independently, off the same shipment, and one being handled correctly says nothing about the other. This course teaches the UK's Batteries and Accumulators (Placing on the Market) Regulations 2008, the Waste Batteries and Accumulators Regulations 2009, and the WEEE Regulations 2013 as amended by the 2019 open scope reform, from first principles to complete practical compliance: how to scope any product against both regimes, the three battery categories and the post-2019 WEEE category structure, who counts as a producer under each regime and how you can be one under both simultaneously, registration through NPWD and OPSS with the one-tonne and five-tonne thresholds, joining or running a compliance scheme, exact chemical-symbol and wheelie-bin labelling requirements, collection and take-back duties including the explicit landfill and incineration ban, the quarterly and annual reporting calendar, and enforcement across the Environment Agency, SEPA, Natural Resources Wales, NIEA, and OPSS. From there, the course covers the exact collision point where an embedded battery inside electronic equipment triggers both regimes at once, the 2025 online marketplace producer rule, the Windsor Framework's direct application of EU battery law in Northern Ireland ahead of the February 2027 portable battery removability requirement, a full UK-versus-EU comparison, and dedicated modules on common product categories, business models, supplier due diligence, training and SOPs, working with regulators, sustainability reporting, multi-market strategy, mergers and brand transitions, and startups shipping their first product. Every module ends with a knowledge check, and the closing stretch walks a complete worked compliance file for a smart doorbell camera end to end, two contrasting case studies, a glossary of every key term and threshold, the practical edge cases producers ask about most, and turns everything you've learned into your own sequenced compliance action plan and downloadable toolkit for every future product launch. Common failure patterns — assuming WEEE reporting covers an embedded battery, missing the 28-day registration window, misclassifying a boundary-case product, shipping stale labelling after a supplier change — are covered as they occur throughout the course, not just listed once at the end. Built on Krono's regulatory database and current 2025-2026 guidance on the online marketplace producer rule, the Windsor Framework's application of EU battery law in Northern Ireland, and the diverging UK and EU collection targets and design requirements. This course contains the use of artificial intelligence for asthetic purposes.
