# FCC Cyber Trust Mark Course: IoT Security Labeling

Earn the FCC Cyber Trust Mark for IoT devices: program scope, the NIST IR 8425 baseline, technical implementation, testing, labeling and a US security strategy.

Consumer IoT sold in the United States is entering a new era. The FCC Cyber Trust Mark — launched by the White House on January 7, 2025 — is a voluntary cybersecurity labeling programme for wireless consumer IoT products, built on the NIST IR 8425 baseline and administered through a network of accredited CyberLABs and Cybersecurity Label Administrators. From January 4, 2027, federal procurement rules require that consumer IoT products supplied to the US government carry the mark — turning a voluntary programme into a de facto requirement for any manufacturer targeting the public sector. This course teaches the complete process: who the programme applies to, what NIST IR 8425 actually requires at the engineering level, how to test and certify, how to build the documentation package, how to maintain your label through the product lifecycle, and how to design one product that satisfies the US Cyber Trust Mark, the UK PSTI Act, and EU RED cybersecurity requirements simultaneously. The course covers the full US IoT regulatory landscape — from the IoT Cybersecurity Improvement Act of 2020 and NIST's foundational IR 8259 series, to Executive Orders 14028 and 14144, through the Cyber Trust Mark programme architecture. It goes deep on all ten NIST IR 8425 cybersecurity outcomes, including asset identification, product configuration, data protection, interface access control, software update, cybersecurity state awareness, documentation, and vulnerability disclosure. It covers the practical engineering implementation of unique default credentials, TLS configuration, secure boot, OTA update signing, and SBOM generation. It walks through the complete CyberLAB testing and CLA application process — including what a manufacturer attestation must contain, what the national registry must list, and how to maintain compliance through product changes. A dedicated module covers the UK PSTI Act 2022 and EU RED Delegated Regulation 2022/30 as comparators, with a practical strategy for designing and certifying one product for all three markets. Built on Krono's regulatory database — the same data that powers our free compliance roadmap tool for hardware manufacturers across FCC, CE/EU, UKCA, and global markets. This course contains the use of artificial intelligence for asthetic purposes.
